This article describes the process that was followed to change the barrel lock on the fuel filler cap. The barrel lock was changed for one of a new set of four with the same key. In this way, hope to have all doors and fuel filler cap having the same key. Found a really useful article linked here on how to undertake the change to the fuel filler cap.
Brought the filler cap inside for this job.
Removed the two screws on the back plate.
Here's the new barrel lock.
Removed the lock arm and the rubber seal.
Unscrewed the lock housing from the filler cap.
Clamped in a vice, drilled (carefully) a 2.5mm diameter hole through the outer casing exactly 5mm from the outside edge, centered above the recess labelled (L)
With a tiny bladed screwdriver in the hole and the lock positioned in the correct orientation, depressed the pin on the barrel lock and the back plate came off along with its seal.
All the parts cleaned up, blown out with the air compressor and looking as good as new.
Assembled the barrel and front seal.
Completely rebuilt and lubricated with WD40.
All done and really happy with this job finished off.
