List of all changes/improvements/fixes

This is a list of all the desired changes/improvements/fixes/jobs and generally things we'd like to get resolved on the Defender.

Bodywork
  • Stone chip on the wind screen - may be small enough for "an in place" fix. 
  • The bonnet not quite sitting level when closed. 
  • Small drill hole drivers side on the front face of the bonnet. 
  • Replace the bonnet with one that does not have wheel mounts?
  • Remove aerials on the roof. 
  • Replace roof with one without the aerial holes. Resprayed.
  • Driver's side wing may have been repaired. Need's investigating.
Engine
  • Full service. 
  • Check out EGR situation. Looks like it has been blanked.
  • Gear crunch issue when changing from 1st to 2nd gear when cold. 
  • Bonnet insulation replacement. 
Electrics
  • Driver's side front side light not working.
  • Driver's side rear side light not working. 
  • Driver's side indicator repeater not working and broken clip. 
  • Rear number plate light unit has a broken seal. 
  • Radio power comes on but nothing displayed on the LCD screen
  • Radio aerial snapped
  • Condition of the battery
  • Bundles of cables/amplifiers/etc... not going really anyway need to be removed
  • Large threaded bolt going through to underside - need to understand this some more. 
  • Numerous cut outs which could do with being plugged with grommets
  • Fuse box. Would like to understand if all is standard and whether any modifications have been made
  • Fuse box cover holes. Would like to understand what they are for and if original
  • Under middle seat. Not clear where the cables go and if the other ends are connected. 
  • Put more electrical insulating tape on wires under middle seat. Current tape is peeling off
  • Speedometer reads wobbly below 30mph
  • Interior lights do not come on when door is opened
  • Alarm enable/disable does not flash indicator lights
  • Change radio to a radio/CD player
  • Slightly scuffed LH rear tail lamp. 
  • Order spare fuses
  • Clean battery terminals and grease up
  • Check battery date and whether needs topping up
  • Replace rear number plate light housing block
  • Hand brake light not working.
  • Rear wash does not work. Pump goes though.
  • Found out that the front intermittent windscreen wipe does not function.
  • Check rear offside tail light connection.
  • Aerial cable adapter to new radio/CD player.
Security
  • Steering lock does not seem to engage. 
  • Rear door lock does not work from the outside - only from the inside
  • Need to either get some more keys cut and/or change some locks
  • Change barrel lock on fuel cap. 
  • Pedal lock kit - Prevents physical access to any of the three pedals. 
  • Steering lock cover
  • Gear locks - Keeps the vehicle in low ratio, diff locked and main gear engaged. Cannot be towed. 
  • Locking wheel nuts
  • Need to understand the immobiliser and alarm situation
  • Spare ignition keys. 
  • Window Guards.
  • Seat box latch broken in battery box.
Interior
  • Floor mats front seats
  • Floor mats for second row of seats
  • Rear load area floor protector.
  • The bulk head floor covering needs a tidy and positioning better. 
  • Numerous screw holes though for various gadgets used in the past on the dash board
  • Would like to understand the two clips on the rear seat support tray. They do not look standard. 
  • Would be good to address the sagging on roof lining
  • Rear quarter panels. Original hole? Would be good to plug in any case
  • Battery compartment to middle seats. Would like to understand the tubed hole. More cable routing? 
  • Front seats have cables into them. Would like to understand what the cables are for. 
  • Steering column. Would like to understand this hole. Possibly for the choke on the petrol version? Seen some photos where this is a grommet plug
  • Trim missing from rear quarter lights. 
  • Carpets in some places need some attention/fixing down properly. 
  • Rear bench set frame slightly bent/warped. 
Chassis
  • Under chassis prevention treatment.

  • Couple of cable ties bolted to the body work need to be renewed
  • Wire brush/shot blast rear cross member/tow gear and paint. 
  • Read chassis serial number. 
  • Replace fuel inlet pipe - looks cracked 
Wheels
  • Wheel balance check. 
  • Front wheel alignment check. 
  • Get spare tyre of same type as other 4 road tyres. 
  • Shot blast and respray of steel spare wheel. 
  • Purchase newer tyres. 
Other
  • Owners manual suggest that there ought to be wheel chocks supplied as well as wading plugs. 
  • Both rear side passenger steps are seized and will not deploy
  • Take off all steps. Clean up, grease and put back on again
  • Thinking about replacing the front windscreen with a heated one.
  • Bottle jack. 
  • Slight chip on LH mirror glass.
